At a glittering event in Kilkenny's Ormonde Hotel on April 5th, we celebrated John Sullivan for six incredible decades of unfaltering service as a Foróige volunteer who has been a stalwart support to the young people of Kilkenny.
We also celebrated 60 years of Cuffesgrange Foróige Club.
Over 200 guests joined us on the night to chat about John and all things Cuffesgrange. There were people from every year of the 60 years of John's time with Foróige, all of whom entered the event in a proud procession saluting John and Cuffesgrange for a lifetime of memories.
We heard powerful stories from speakers about the real and profound impact that John, and the club, have had on so many lives down through the years. The things that might have seemed small at the time, but are so important and make all the difference to a young person; feeling respected by adults; connection to the community and to each others; being valued, heard and included and the great memories created through the plain everyday activities in the club.
The night culminated in the bestowing of Foróige's first Honorary Lifetime Membership ever to be granted by the organisation to John as a mark of the deep esteem in which we hold him.
