Thousands of teenagers from all around the country descended onto a rural beach in County Mayo at the weekend to enjoy a music festival with a difference. Foróige's Band on the Strand is a unique drug and alcohol free music festival which takes place on one of the country’s most isolated and picturesque beaches, Lacken Strand.
'Friends of Foróige’ is a new initiative that has been developed to promote, advocate and fundraise for Foróige. Former/current volunteers, past members (18+) and supporters of Foróige are all encouraged to get involved. Involvement in these groups requires a minimum amount of time and are already proving to be an essential part of the organisation.
The Dublin Declaration recognises the unique potential of youth work in supporting attainment of ‘soft’ skills which are increasingly sought after by employers. The Declaration was agreed following an EU Presidency expert roundtable hosted by Minister Fitzgerald who has agreed to write to President Herman Van Rompuy ahead of next week’s EU Council summit.
Foróige has played a central part of many people’s lives for over 61 years. We think it’s time for your local community to see the impact clubs have made on young people’s lives and the impact that the young people have made on their own communities. 2013 is the year of ‘The Gathering’ and Foróige wants to ‘gather up’ as many of our old members, volunteers and former staff as possible.
My name is Máirín McGrath, I am 15 and from Newcastle Foróige Club, Co.Tipperary. On Thursday, June 13th as I was studying for my Junior Cert exams, I received a phone call from Foróige HQ. I was informed about a very important invitation from the US Embassy. Immediately excited at the sound of US Embassy I wondered what this invite could be. I was asked if I was available to go to Dublin the following Monday.
