An exciting new community project was launched during the summer months involving the members of Foróige TACT Garda Youth Diversion Project (Cork) and the woodwork team at Quality Development Services, Togher. This shared venture was enthusiastically embarked upon by all of the participants. QDS provided the technical expertise and facilities and Foróige provided the location for the installation of the beehives. All of the work was jointly carried out within an integrated setting.

This initiative is of great value in promoting community involvement, active citizenship and inclusion. Participants have an opportunity to engage in meaningful team working while applying and developing practical woodworking and construction skills under supervision. The next step in this project is a Beekeeping Course to commence in April of next year and will give those involved an opportunity to learn this ancient skill.

Some of the quotes from participants so far have been, ”It gave us a lot of respect for who we are”, “We made new friendships”, “It was good fun and I enjoyed it”. Both QDS and Foroige TACT Garda Youth Diversion Project look forward to working together in 2014 and hopefully with all of that honey produced, we will make this the sweetest community in Cork!
